Will traditional CVs be relevant by the time you graduate?

This article, found via the Bachelor EGC Facebook page, definitely caught my attention -- and should catch yours.

It's in French, and I could have found similar information in English, but you might have thought "OK, that's happening in the USA, but not here, and anyway France is usually about 5 years behind on a lot of things..."

But no, this article is about FRANCE and what it explains could definitely have an impact on YOU -- maybe not quite by the time you graduate from your Bachelor's program, but certainly a few years down the road.

Today's writing assignment involves developing your reaction to the article.

Step by step:

1. Read the article En 2012, le CV passe à la trappe, and make sure to watch the video.

2. IN ENGLISH, write a SHORT summary of the article, then write about your reaction to it.

3. You can work in pairs or individually.

4. Make sure to make use of appropriate IT/ Internet tools to improve your writing: online dictionaries, Google methods, spell-check in English

5. The work can be submitted in two ways: as a comment on this blog post (preferred, but prepare it on another platform so it can be saved as you go along) or as a Word document to be submitted via Infomédiare (Dossier EGC 2 - Vie Scolaire - Dépôts.)

6. The writing produced does not have to be extremely long: work for clarity, accuracy, and even originality.

7. Travail à rendre pour le cours de la semaine prochaine au plus tard, mais qui peut également être terminé en cours aujourd'hui .

This article has been published on the website « 01net.com » by Xavier Biseul the 12 January 2012. The main subject of the article is the Curriculum Vitae’s evolution.

First, the author shows reasons of this phenomenon: employers can’t feel applicants’ life-skills even if this parameter is really important to evaluate their efficiency in the company. A CV can have the opposite effect and mislead them.
Then, the article develops several CV’s shapes which are innovative and which can be generalized in the future.

In our point of view, this evolution can be a good thing because currently, companies receive regularly CVs which are really similar. They don’t know how make a choice and make a mistake on the choice.
Furthermore, the new CV’s shape use creativity and can be attractive. Applicants can express themselves and employers can discover and feel applicants personality.

Nevertheless, this new phenomenon needs limitations because a CV have to stay something which is professional and serious. Content and form are two thinks really important and we can’t neglect the content. The danger is that CV loose it reason to exist: to inform employers regarding our professional career.

IN 2012, THE CV IS UNFORTUNATELY GOING OUT THE WINDOW.
EMMANUEL GRIMA AND GUILLAUME POUJADE - RODEZ - MONDAY, JANUARY 23TH

In this document, Xavier Biseul tells the CV is going out the window in France, and moving on a new way of presentation: the video. France used to be a country with old tradition and make time to move through the new things, but there, France is the first to do this. However, there are already others ways to postulate without traditional CV! Peoples are using the new technologies, making viral-videos or using their cities to promote them with publicities on screens or billboards.

In our studies, we’re learning how to create a CV, which look like us. It can be personalized in function of the different propositions. We think that the missing of the CV could be a bad idea! It has to represent our professionalism and also we have to express our creativity on-it. It’s a very strong way for our future employers to knows us, and easier for enterprise which don't want to receive lots of videos who can be putted in the trash or spam box without any view on it.

We should make a compromise which could be to make a video if we want, and put the URL on the end of our "paper" CV…

Two days ago, a cruise ship ran aground on rocks in the Mediterranean Sea. To our knowledge, there were dead and many missing.
The cause of this accident was due to a technical problem. Only the captain was able to solve this problem and saved many lives. However he escaped while the boat rocked.

We believe that this is a tragic accident whose cause is unacceptable. Indeed, a captain must remain on his ship up there have no one. Through his own fault, many people have died and disappeared.

It is important that the person be tried and that laws will be introduced to force the captain to remain on the ship. If the captain fails to meet its obligations then what is his utility?

This section deals with the Fact That CVs are over. At the time of social networks, the CV is over and more and more people use the internet media to talk about their professional profile.
For a long time, the CV is the most used to highlight his skills during a job interview. In most cases, the employer looks at the resume, if interested then he will see the letter. If the profile is really interested he will be asked an interview. However, through the CV and letter of motivation, personality and the personal dimension of the candidate isn’t put forward or very little. In addition, today, at a time when more and more people are studying, it is difficult to differentiate the profiles and measure the qualities of the candidate. The life skills of the candidate before the interview, is not emphasized.
And this article deals with various operations that do more up to date CV. For example, an operation "Tue ton CV" was launched on Facebook or even a Twelfth Night cake in which a bean specified site URL resume, and even more unusual, a video resume was posted on its website .
Social networks have played an important role in this phenomenon. We can observe a phenomenon of social revolution in terms of recruitment. It is now possible to put forward their personal details in his qualifications, his school career, his personal experiences...
The social profile tends to replace the CV as we enter the privacy of the candidate. In 2010, APEC has launched a service for hire without CV or cover letter. The candidate is invited to complete a questionnaire so that we can identify their profile.
We believe that is a very interesting idea to highlight better to apply for Employment. Indeed, many companies focus on qualifications and skills is very little. What is not normal it isn’t a sincere reflection of the person of the Ability to Be Successful at work. Putting forward its skills and experience so personal is a good way to express his personality and his creative side, imaginative. We hope that this way of being recruited to democratize.

Will traditional CVs be relevant by the time you graduate?
This text is an article written by Xavier Biseul and posted on the website 01.net on the January 12, 2012.
It speaks about the CV and it’s probably disappearance in 2013. The traditional CV is not correctly used by the employer, and the candidates have not the same chance to be hired.
Now, there are new forms of CV, as quiz or sending e-mails or your profile. And there are websites as qapa. fr which permit to recycle your traditional CV on Facebook and show you what are the job requirements and the candidate can choose what skills he has rather than the employer select the candidate with his CV. Moreover, the candidate receives job offers corresponding to his skills.
We think that there are two ways to approach this subject.
On one hand, the new CVs as video or new types of recruitments as quizzes can reduce the inequality of the hiring. It is a form more dynamic and the selection criteria are different so it could permit to discover new profiles among the candidates.
On the other hand, traditional CVs are more formal and give the same information on all the candidates.
In the article, it is said that the traditional CV will probably disappear in 2013. But, if it is replaced by video’s CV it will be difficult for certain people who are shy to present themselves in front of a video camera.
To conclude, we will say that the new CV could be good for certain people but we think that it will not be a good thing to remove completely the traditional CV which is more adapted to the others.
